Affirmative Fair Housing Policy
Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) is a policy the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) established to address housing discrimination and promote fair housing opportunities for all Americans. Enacted as part of the Fair Housing Act of 1968, AFFH requires recipients of federal funding, such as local governments and housing authorities, to actively work towards reducing segregation and fostering inclusive communities.
Through the CDBG program, HUD provides funding for various community development activities. AFFH, on the other hand, requires federal funding recipients to work towards reducing segregation and promoting inclusive communities actively. Together, these initiatives aim to foster fair and equitable housing practices and create more vibrant, diverse, and integrated neighborhoods throughout the United States.
HUD is the federal agency responsible for implementing and enforcing fair housing laws in the United States. Under the Fair Housing Act, HUD has the authority to oversee and regulate housing practices to ensure that no one is denied housing based on their race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status.
